That was pretty entertaining. Any point O’Reilly has is lost by his failing to admit that the cost didn’t rise in proportion to cost per barrel. Granted, the cost to manufacture doesn’t scale completely linearly, but Cavuto has a good point. Another point that no one made is that the price at the pump isn’t set by the oil companies across the board. The drift in coming down is partially that small station owners have to eke out a profit somehow.
There’s also a natural lag. The refinery pays the current price for oil, makes gas, and sells to station owners based on that current price. If the price falls, the station owner will take a bath if they cut the price immediately before they’ve sold off the gas they bought at the old price.
Always nice to see O’Reilly get taken down a peg or two. He’s a nasty, arrogant windbag, and has been giving Cavuto crap for years. O’Reilly has the brain and attention span of a dead flea, and yet he thinks himself a genius. Well played Cavuto.
