  • Credit card fraud is almost over?

    The US is the last major country still using magstripe credit cards, but that’s going away in favor of tappable “chip cards” and phone-based systems like the about-to-launch Apple Pay.

    Here’s the introduction and explanation of Apple Pay. The upshot is you tap your iPhone on the card reader and it goes through such that Apple doesn’t know what you’re buying or how much you’re paying and the store doesn’t know your name, credit card number, or CVV code. Since the store doesn’t know your card details, they can’t leak them to Eastern European hackers anymore (Target and Home Depot both had this problem relatively recently).
