Irony is the enemy of the post-modern left(tm)

France flipflops

  • Why?

Meryl Yourish talks about why she blogs. I’d like to expand on (or, more accurately, contract) one thing she says:

I wanted to kick Wil Wheaton’s ass in stats

Having recently watched the first four seasons of Star Trek: The Next Generation pretty much back to back (hurrah for DVDs), I would render that as I wanted to kick Wil Wheaton’s ass, full stop.

  • Photoshop for Peace!

Some nitwits had a peace poster contest. Ken Layne, Jim Treacher, and many others demonstrated once again that irony is the mortal enemy of the anti-war crowd.

  • This would be funny if it weren’t so repulsive. Happened across mentions of this while doing some research.

Actual quote: At the end, the player confronts the “end boss,” a rocket launcher-wielding Ariel Sharon, who hurls insults such as: “Oy vey! Can you shoot no better than that?”; “We have destroyed your culture!”; and “We silenced Henry Ford.” When Sharon dies, he coughs out “Filthy White dog, you have destroyed thousands of years of planning.”

Aeroflot is finally changing their logo so it no longer includes the hammer and sickle. Apparently that logo had “negative connotations”.

  • A useful reminder

…that while their government is infested with weasels, there are still plenty of honorable decent Germans. I certainly wouldn’t want anyone judging the American people on the basis of Daschle or Powell or even GWB and we oughta avoid that mistake for others too. Except the French.

Congrats to Neil Gaiman on his Nebula win for ‘American Gods’. Also grats to Joss Whedon who has episodes of three of his creations up for Hugos this year, two of which he wrote the teleplays for. And as a followup congrats to Neil again on his Hugo nom for Novella with ‘Coraline’ and his BSFA short fiction win for the same.
