Inoperable Terran

Exploding train

Cat Stevens was a guest at a Canadian Hamas fund-raiser, and he openly advocated blowing up the Jooos at that conference. I know you’re surprised.

  • Back in the (weekly) saddle

Here’s TMQ for Week 3 of the NFL season.

Also, apparently I missed this somewhere, but new Washington coach Joe Gibbs is “Professor Dumbledore”. That only makes sense given that he replaced “Dobby the House Elf”.

Some interesting bits over at NewsAskew including that Buffy’s own Faith (Eliza Dushku, as if you didn’t know) was who Kev had in mind for the part of Maya in Jersey Girl.

Looks like H1B Visa changes are being discussed in the Senate, including the possibility of upping the cap from 65,000 per year.

Somehow missed reports that Angel/Wonderfalls vet Tim Minear may be signing on as exec producer/showrunner for a new Fox ‘high school undercover drama’. Rachel Nichols (Dumb and Dumberer) and Peter Facinelli (Six Feet Under, The Scorpion King) are set to star. Link via Whedonesque where one smartarsed commenter asked if this wasn’t the basic plot of 21 Jump Street.

  • Fixing an oversight

Here’s Gregg Easterbrook’s TMQ for Week 1 and Week 2 of the NFL season. It’s not really football season until you see “Les Mouflons” and “former extraterrestrial Kurt Warner” in the same column.

But sadly, “(WARNING: MAY CONTAIN FOOTBALL-LIKE SUBSTANCE)” has been retired to mark the Denny Green era. (Bonus snark aimed at Green is included, as is bonus snark aimed at Tuh-RAY-za. I’m serious).

  • Tease

Power went out Saturday night around 3 AM. I woke up then and both my UPSes were almost dead, meaning it had gone out about 15 minutes before. And that’s also why I didn’t post the “The power’s gone out” message from the last 2 hurricanes. Anyway, this time I had a generator so it wasn’t nearly as awful. I was able to watch DirecTV, keep my fridge spitting out ice cubes, run some fans (and lamps after dark), and even microwave things. Unfortunately the cable doesn’t seem to work when my neighborhood doesn’t have power (I tried) or I might have even posted something.
