Inoperable Terran

Irony is the enemy of the post-modern left(tm)

Matt Millen: Winner

This is awesome. Unless you’re a Lions fan, I guess.

  • The game’s afoot

President Bush has thrown the gauntlet to Congress – if the courts are going to make interrogating terrorists illegal, it’s up to Congress to clarify their status. This is gonna be really interesting in an election year – the Donks know that going along with the courts is a loser, but they have to at least appear to be kowtowing to Kos.

  • Ouch

Here’s a 9/11 memorial that’ll raise CAIR’s ire: a group is going to burn Osama in effigy outside a large Saudi-run mosque in LA. Yes, really.

  • A headline that almost works

Iran is purging liberal university professors. Unfortunately, in Iran, “liberal” means moderate Muslims.

Nine Muslims have been arrested in Denmark for terror plotting, and the Danish media’s even calling them “Muslims”. Nice.

  • Steyn on C-SPAN

He held court for a full hour, and you can see the whole thing or 5 minutes of highlights assembled by our favorite moon god.

My favorite quote yet (at roughly 1:26:00 on the C-SPAN feed):

These are home-grown British subjects, British born and bred. They like fish and chips, they like cricket, they like lousy English pop music, but, they want to blow you up!

Another (~1:56:30 on the C-SPAN feed):

If you could pull some dead leftist from the 50s, 60s, or 70s, bring him back to life, and say “This is what the Left is doing now, defending the CIA’s honor” this dead leftist from the 60s would think the Left had gone bananas!

And one more (~1:58:35 on the C-SPAN feed):

The CIA is a big bunch of bureaucrats sitting in Langley, Virginia, downloading e-mails all day. It’s desk jockeys. It’s not– People think of this James Bond image of spies – Double 0-7, license to kill. Well that’s not what these fellows – they’re licensed to kill time. 90% of what they do at the CIA is a complete waste of time, they’d be better off sticking it all on the Internet and saying “Any suggestions, world?” It’d likely be just as effective.

BTW, if you’re wondering how he got so smart: he didn’t go to college. At all. Hence there are several jokes about his “auto-didacticism”.

Byrd let go of his “hold” on the anti-pork bill, but 2 others (an unknown Democrat and Alaska Republican Ted Stephens, famous for the “series of tubes” riff) are holding it up now.

Lefty blogger Glenn Greenwald called Mark Steyn “chicken”. Considering Steyn went by himself on a tour of Iraq, that’s gonna be a hard charge to make stick.
