Inoperable Terran

Irony is the enemy of the post-modern left(tm)

The real enemy

Kim du Toit goes a little Sinead O’Connor and reminds us who the real enemy is.

Sorry, there was a glitch where you’d come here and get redirected back to the old site. I’ve fixed the error now.

  • Three is plenty

Lileks makes fun of some of Amazon’s suppliers, then Gnat ensues. But don’t miss the 1970s Children’s Storybook Art at the end. It’s got more hideousness than an all-Hildi and Kia Trading Spaces marathon.

(Drink Alert in effect for the rest of this post)

UPDATE: I repeat, do NOT miss the Children’s Storybook Art. Because it comes with classically Lileksian descriptions like this:

And you know what they say about ten yards of unspooled intestines! Rover’s delight, Mommy takes fright.

Michele has managed to turn the whole “no sex for peace” thing on it’s head. A drink alert is involved due to a Tim Blair reference (you’ll see).

  • French surrender to business

The 10-hotel Sofitel chain has removed the French flag from all of their US locations to avoid offending people. So in other words, France is preemptively surrendering. The comedy writes itself, folks.

  • Buffy, the UN slayer

Jonah Goldberg pulls an impressive allegory out of an episode of Buffy. It’s probably unlikely that the writers intended it that way, but it does work well. (And yes, I know that’s an old column, but he just linked it again today on the Corner and I’d missed it first time around).

  • Compatibility note

I’ve upgraded my Redhat box to KDE 3.1, and it seems Konqueror 3.1 doesn’t like this new layout – it tries to put the left and right columns *inside* the main content column, with bizzare looking results. 3.0 worked fine, and Safari (Apple’s Konqi derivative) works fine. Go figure. So if you normally use Konqi and are on KDE 3.1, please use Mozilla 1.2 or later to view the Terran. I’ll try to figure out the problem, but no guarantees will be made.

  • We’re here!

Alright. Now that that nightmare’s over, let me tell you: never shop for a webhost on price alone. We have now escaped our previous host in favor of Total Choice Hosting. TCH is somewhat more expensive, but their service is already much better. Also, they have David Raynes, who is a Movable Type plugin developer, on staff. So he makes very sure that their systems run MT at peak efficiency. The new server imported all 1800 posts in less than 5 seconds, which is just blazing :)

Anyway, enough of that. All this means that the Terran should now have all the speed and stability you expect from any non-Blogspot blog, and there should be no further disruptions in postings or service.

Members of “Lezbollah” (thanks to Tim Blair for that one) have declared that all women should stop having sex with men until all war is abolished. Riiiiiiight. Den Beste skewers the plan pretty good, and then links to Meryl Yourish and Andrea Harris making further crap out of it.

PS: posting is light today due to the aforementioned server problems. I was unable to log into Movable Type for several hours because our current host is having issues. As was also previously mentioned, we hope to switch hosts again tonight to one that fully supports MT and other cgi-bins. (A bit of irony: the current host’s own support message board suffers the same exact problems MT does!)
