    The newly renamed AT&T is wasting no time in getting the band back together: they bought BellSouth today, leaving Qwest and Verizon as the only original “baby Bells” not part of the new Death Star.

    For the record, I think the solution to this is actually further deregulation: if phone companies didn’t own the “last mile” to your house the baby Bells would become uninteresting in a hurry. This is already starting to happen with phone-over-cable-Internet and cell-only households, but we’re still way behind Japan on cheap broadband.
