Irony is the enemy of the post-modern left(tm)

Obama’s new ad (coming after the 4th time this year he’s promised to “take the gloves off”) mocks McCain for being unable to use a computer because he’s old (and yes, the AARP demographic has already taken notice). As a quick Google will reveal, McCain physically can’t type due to injuries from the “Hanoi Hilton”.
This whole Obama thing has *got* to be a put-on by the DNC. Any minute Allen Funt will pop out and they’ll announce the real ticket is Hillary Clinton and Phil Bredesen (or Mark Warner) or something, right?
UPDATE: Obama’s pulled the ad from the Internet and TV.
UPDATE 2: … or not. It’s still on his official website, at least.
UPDATE 3: Whoa. I didn’t realize I got Insty’d. And yes, I was goofing off with the Candid Camera riff, but this campaign season lends itself to that.
UPDATE 4: Allah did some digging and found out that the ad’s even dumber: McCain does read email and websites but he has to dictate replies to his wife Cindy, who types them. And Jonah Goldberg has more to say.

Obama is slowly morphing into the “Seinfeld candidate”….a campaign sitcom about nothing…..not that there’s anything wrong with THAT!
I won’t say that Obama had alot of chance of getting my vote. But as a handicapped person, he REALLY isn’t getting my vote now.
Its official. Obama is a d—.
This superb and hilarious picture portrays the full difference between leftists and rightists. Give a leftist a vein-popping stroke with this comedy gem.
In fairness, there are hottie lefties (Tina Fey, the spitting image of Sarah Palin, for one). I even think Michelle Obama’s good looking, although I understand many don’t.
Tina Fey is not attractive. Being able to muster a bit of cleavage is a very minimal bar to clear. Plus, she is not an ideological leftists, per say.
Michelle Obama looks like Zira, and also has a weird-shaped body.
Cindy McCain – now that is a hottie.
Mccain can operate a computer as well as a fishing rod
if your so good GOOGLE IT
One of my first jobs out of college was developing a voice activated workstation for a quadriplegic engineer.
Obama’s ad doesn’t want say anything about keyboard, and voice activated systems have been around for 15 years. Common as dirt. Perhaps if you all kept up with the modern advances in technology…
Oh, and how nice to see the people who take umbrage at the sexism against Sarah Palin indulge in body comparisons of other women in comments.
Excuse me, typo, “Obama’s ad doesn’t say anything about a keyboard…”
Obama’s ad says flat out that McCain can’t use email, and that’s been debunked. (Also, the visual is of an early 80s machine, probably CP/M, and I don’t think you can get head tracking or voice recognition for those. It’d be a neat hack though).
As far as the sexism, there’s a rather strong difference in both prominence and degree between what a few commenters said here and e.g. the comments of the head of the South Carolina Democratic Party.
Barack Obama: Sooper Geenyus.
His Majesty undoubtedly thought that once he bought an “Acme Self-Correcting Political Campaign Kit,” all he had to do was kick back and chill out until the coronation.
Sorry, another PS, but evidently McCain does use a computer, and it was his unfamiliarity with the internet and modern forms of communication that drew the criticism.
Personally, I didn’t care for the ad, and thought it failed to make any effective point, but it wasn’t being cruel and mocking McCain’s “inability to use a computer” — McCain has a computer on his desk in photos.
Oh, and it’s McCain’s shoulders that are incapacitated — not his hands.
keyboard – now theres an issue
– lets ignore global warming (mccain is on right side there) and earmarks (mccain is on right side there too)
how about continuing tax cuts that increased the deficit and give moer share of wealth to the wealthy.
The various articles people have dug up suggest that he has some use of his hands, but it’s not correct to say they aren’t incapacitated either. In any case, it’s a weird ad (as a child of the 80s I thought all the images of old tech were kinda cool in a VH1 way and didn’t pay much attention to the message the first time I saw it) and Obama’s video guys are going to have to try harder.
I’d suggest they attack him on immigration, but apparently Obama also has a Spanish-language ad promising full amnesty so that’s a wash.
nlcatter: tax progressiveness and income to the Treasury increased under the Bush Administration. Actual government figures: the top 1% now make 19% of income and pay 40% of taxes. The rich paid a lower percentage under Clinton.
Neal Boortz used those stats to completely confound Dennis Kucinich at the Democratic convention.
[...] Epic fail [...]
the top 1% pays 25% of taxes ot 40%
try again LIAR
and capital gains were not needed as enducements
and Estate tax needs to be maintained.
Sorry, try again. The top 1% pay 40% *and climbing*.
For extra flavor, here’s Boortz’s commentary. He quite nicely explains why leftist tax policy doesn’t work. (Of course, he’s also the co-author of the Fair Tax so he knows a bit about this stuff).
David Stockman, Paul Craig Roberts and Martin Anderson) had boasted that the 81 tax cuts would result in 5 percent economic growth in 1982, which would simply outgrow the deficit.1 In fact, 1982 turned out to be the worst year in postwar history, with negative growth of 2.2 percent.
the RIch aer not paying enough with their lowered cap gains rate and tax code loopholes.
it is one reason the 400 billion deficit exists.
Yes the war is also a factor
both supported by McCain
By 2010, when (and if) the Bush tax reductions are fully in place, an astonishing 52 percent of the total tax cuts will go to the richest one percent
Obama says the middle class shoudl be the beneficiary of tax cuts not the wealthy.
The deficit exists because Congress won’t spend less than what it takes in, and hasn’t since the 60s. The war is part of that, but it’s less than the entitlements and now the bailouts are going to be.
Anyway, I don’t want to have to baby-sit this thread and tax policy is exceedingly tedious even when it’s not almost midnight so I’m turning off comments now. I suggest everyone go do something fun instead, like watch reporters blow around Texas.
